"Chess Set of the Gods"
$ 54,000.00

Gayle Bright has sculptured seven magnificent miniature statues creating a "Chess Set of the Gods". These superbly detailed figures are based on Greek mythology and are offered in a limited edition of 50 sets. The set pictured is number 16 in the edition and is available in sterling silver as shown with deep blue lapis lazuli bases on eight figures and creamy white magnesite bases on the opposing eight figures. The hand made black walnut box features a chess board with 2¾" black onyx and white marble squares and sculpted sterling silver lion head drawer pulls.

Gayle Bright carved the original figures in wax in 1975, they were cast in metal and then flexible rubber molds were made from the original castings. To re-produce the set, hot wax is injected into the molds. After a timed cooling process, the wax artwork is pulled from the molds and Gayle carefully details each piece to remove parting lines and repair any flaws in the wax patterns. Next, each piece is prepared for casting in the lost wax method. After casting the wax models in sterling silver the finishing process begins. The sprues and casting channels are cut off. Each piece is pre-polished with steel brushes and rough polishing compounds. Each piece is carefully inspected for casting flaws, and repaired. Finally, each piece is detailed with sculpting and engraving tools, polished through numerous stages with finer and finer polishing compounds, and then inspected and hand engraved by Gayle Bright with the year of copyright and her signature and the edition number. The figures are then mounted on the gemstone bases. It takes up to four months to reproduce one chess set. Each chess set sells for $54,000.00.
