Chess Set of the Gods

Chess Set of the Gods

Gayle Bright has sculpted seven magnificent miniature statues creating a "Chess Set of the Gods". These superbly detailed figures must be seen in person to appreciate the intricate detailing. The set shown is number 16 in an edition of 50 and is available in solid sterling silver with deep blue lapis lazuli bases on 16 figures and creamy white manganese bases on the opposing 16 figures. The hand made black walnut box features a chess board with 2 3/4" black onyx and white marble suares and sculpted sterling silver lion head drawer pulls. Gayle carved the original figures in wax. They were then cast them in metal so that flexible rubber molds could be made. To reproduce the set, hot wax is injected into the molds. After a timed cooling process, the wax artwork is pulled from the molds and Gayle carefully details each piece to remove parting lines and repair any flaws in the wax models. Next, each piece is prepared for casting in solid sterling silver by the lost wax method. After Gayle casts the pieces the finishing process begins. The casting channels and vents are cut off. Each piece is pre-polished with steel brushes and rough polishing compounds, carefully inspected for flaws and repaired. Finally, each piece is detailed with sculpting and engraving tools, polished through numerous stages with finer and finer polishing compounds, and then inspected and hand engraved by Gayle with the year of copyright, her signature, and the edition number. The figures are then mounted on the gemstone bases. Gayle Bright spends up to four months to reproduce one chess set. This set is currently NOT FOR SALE. Please see Zeus, Hera, Pegasus, Hades, Poseidon, Temple, and Pan for close up images of the chess pieces.
